FAQs
Is it a true story?
Yes, it’s a true story. I had to change things just enough to obfuscate identities because I didn’t want to hurt anyone in the publication process, but yes, this is what happened.
I did very little editing on the dialogue and email. So you have here the unvarnished, raw truth of how two flawed people in love actually talk and write to each other.
You actually saved all these emails and texts?
Yes. This book could not have happened if Nate lived down the block. Because we were on separate continents, we had to write to stay connected. There is an extensive digital trail. And you might have noticed that Nate is an exceptional writer. He seduces with his pen. I couldn’t hit delete.
You make it kind of sexy to date an Australian. Should I or shouldn't I?
Do it. Australians are charming, fun-loving, creative and wonderful. I’d date another if the right one came along. But - and sadly I mean this seriously - iif you have more money than your partner and it’s a committed relationship, you should get the equivalent of an Aussie prenup, even if you aren’t married.
How long did this take you to write?
The main part of the book took about a year. But I had to wait about three years for the court case to happen, because I didn’t know how things would turn out, and my book needed an ending! Once the court case was resolved, it took about a month to write and edit the final chapters, then about eight months for the various legal reviews from both Australian and US lawyers who specialize in advising authors.
